  1. An Afternoon with Author Richard Rubin

    March 18, 2018, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM @ MHL - The Hall

Author Richard Rubin returns to Memorial Hall Library to discuss his latest book "Back Over There." In "Last of the Doughboys," Rubin introduced readers to a forgotten generation of Americans: the men and women who fought and won the First World War. He knew the importance of being present if you want to get the real story, so he traveled Over There and discovered that while most Americans regard the Great War as dead and gone, to the French, who still live among its ruins and memories, it remains very much alive. For months he followed the trail of the American Expeditionary Forces on the Western Front, finding trenches, tunnels, bunkers, century-old graffiti and ubiquitous artifacts. Through his travels he met many French after-hours historians and archaeologist with a fondness for America and Americans, who tirelessly explore the World War I sites to preserve the memories they embody. Copies of his books will be available, courtesy of the Andover Bookstore.
