History

Pomps Pond is located off Abbot Street and is part of the Recreation Park complex. The pond comprises 16 of the 62 acres in the Park. Pomps Pond seasonal programs are coordinated by the Andover Department of Community Services. The pond offers a spacious sunbathing area; recreational swimming; shaded picnic grounds; children's playground area including a volleyball net; sailboat, canoe, and kayak rentals; bathrooms; showers; and a concession stand. Red Cross certified swim lessons; lifeguard training; and afternoon and evening sailing lessons are offered to the community. For additional information about the pond please click the above links or call (978) 623-8274.

Sunday afternoon Family Fun Days include a family splash party complete with sandcastle building and the annual rotten sneaker contest. Joint efforts between the DCS and the Shawsheen River Watershed include the annual canoe safety and paddling demonstration and a mid summer family canoe and kayak sunset paddle.

Walking trails bordering the pond make for pleasant strolls along the water. Eagle Scouts have continued to upgrade the paths by building a bridge along a stream bed, adding hand rails on our inclines, and clearing trees and underbrush along the trails. We invite you to enjoy our swimming facility and hope you will visit us during our short season.
