Bike Routes Plan 2013
Over the past several months the Planning Division has been working in concert with the acting DPW Director and Public Safety Officer in identifying opportunities to expand bicycle connectivity throughout Town. The expansion of cycling for both recreation and transportation has been a long standing vision of the community dating back to 1995 when the Town was awarded a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety bureau to purchase bicycle signage to establish a cross-town route from River Road to Harold Parker State Forest. Since that time, very little has been accomplished to provide for clearly identifiable bike paths or routes to serve both commuters and recreational users.
In the summer of 2013 the Town advanced the first phase of this project with the placement of sharrows on roadways and expanding the fog lane on newly paved roads. The Town has also engaged representatives from the Andover Green Advisory Board, Lowell Junction TMO, Merrimack Valley TMA and the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission to confirm routes and help identify future connections.
