The Andover Youth Services was created to respond to the community's need for quality programs and services for its young people. Andover's young people face many challenges, and it is our mission to develop and maintain a program that has the ability to be flexible and encourages youth to use their creativity and spontaneity in positive ways.
The Andover Youth Services continues to be mission driven and goal-oriented. The Andover Youth Services' four basic goals are:
- Youth-involvement in town's administrative procedures
- Recreational, educational, and social programs
- Support services
- Youth-designed programs and services
The AYS produces programs that are relevant to the current interests and future needs of the youth. Needs and interests vary according to the individual and group and will change from year to year. The Youth Services programs are unique in all facets of their implementation. The ideas for programs come from the young people themselves. Youth people are involved in every step of the process; from planning meetings to promotion of the event. Extraordinary events like Main Street Madness and the Homegrown Film Festival to building New England's best outdoor skatepark are the direct result of youth involvement and commitment. There is no other organization that can consistently create and implement such phenomenal programs on a limited budget.
The development of the Youth Services program demonstrates the positive impact our programs have in the community of Andover. What started with 30 kids in a mat room has developed into a multifaceted year-round program that involves thousands of young people in a variety of outings, services, and groups. From lacrosse to community services to overnight camping trips, the Youth Services consistently delivers unique and innovative programs for the youth of Andover.
