Poet Laureate Committee

Poetry has deep and cherished roots in the history of Andover, as the home of Anne Bradstreet, one of America’s earliest recognized poets. Continuing that legacy, and striving to reinvigorate the role of poetry in the daily life of the community, the Town of Andover is excited to announce the creation of the position of Poet Laureate.  We are seeking a qualified candidate to serve the inaugural two-year term.  Candidates must be Andover residents, 18 and over. 

ROLE OF THE POET LAUREATE

 
The Poet Laureate will represent the Town of Andover by presenting original works of poetry; conducting poetry readings; developing a connection with Andover students; and participating in public events as well as Town, school, and library programs.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Candidates must submit a brief letter of intent, outlining their reasons for applying and vision for the position; a minimum of 3 and no more than 5 one-page poems, along with a statement of originality; a short bio and contact information.  Applications may be submitted electronically to andoverpoet@mhl.org.  They may also be mailed or dropped off in person at Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main Street, Andover, MA  01810  attn: Stefani Traina Community Services Librarian.

- Dedication to the art of writing poetry
- Demonstrated interest in promoting poetry within the Andover community
- Excellence of the candidate’s work
