Courageous Conversations: White Fragility

In her groundbreaking and timely book, White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, antiracist educator, Robin DiAngelo, deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility. Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. DiAngelo explores how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively. The program will begin with a short video of Robin DiAngelo talking about white fragility, followed by a facilitated discussion led by Gail Forsyth-Vail of the Unitarian Universalist Association. All are welcome, even if they've not read the book. A collaboration of Memorial Hall Library, Courageous Conversations, North Parish Racial Justice Team and Showing Up for Racial Justice.
