Mistral presents: "Portraits of Madness", Julie Scolnik, artistic director

Saturday, September 9, 2023

Mistral explores the fascinating intersection of mental illness and creative genius in works by some of history's most iconic composers. Fearful of death, afflicted with mood disorders, hallucinations, or superstition, four legendary composers – Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, and Beethoven – struggled with various forms of mental health, but in the depths of their intense emotions, they transformed their pain into timeless works that continue to move and inspire generations.
