[ARCHIVED] MassDOT Closing Tewksbury Street Bridge Beginning 8/4

MassDOT Logo

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Tewksbury Street Bridge over the Pan Am Railroad in Andover will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4. The sidewalk across the bridge will remain open for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The bridge closure is necessary due to the condition of bridge. Electronic message boards will be installed on Thursday, August 2 on both approaches to the bridge notifying drivers of the closure.

Once the bridge is closed, traffic will be detoured as follows:

· Westbound traffic will be directed to follow Andover Street; left onto Dascomb Road; left onto Shawsheen Street and follow to its intersection with Vale Street in Tewksbury Street.

· Eastbound traffic will be directed to follow Shawsheen Street; right onto Dascomb Road; right onto Andover Street and follow to its intersection with Tewksbury Street in Andover.

Signage will be placed along the detour routes to guide drivers.

MassDOT is currently developing a repair plan which will allow the bridge to be reopened to one way, alternating traffic. Information on this future work will be provided as it is available.

MassDOT encourages the public to be mindful of potential traffic impacts. Those traveling through the area and along the detour routes should reduce speed and use caution.
