The Town of Andover Select Board is seeking an Andover resident interested in filling a vacant seat on the Trustees of the Punchard Free School. This interim appointment will last until a permanent successor is elected on March 26, 2024.
The Trustees of the Punchard Free School disburse scholarship funds held in the Punchard Free School Trust. Punchard Trustees maintain and administer two separate funds for the support of the Andover High School. One provides support for special projects requested by teachers and approved by the principal, and the other fund provides eight major scholarships which are awarded to graduating seniors. The Punchard Trustees were originally created in 1850 by the will of Benjamin Punchard, a local industrialist, who left funds to provide for the beginning of a public secondary school system in Andover. Trustees meet several times a year as needed.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest electronically to manager@andoverma.gov by Friday, April 22, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. Candidates will be interviewed by a subcommittee of the Select Board.
