Assisted Listening and Live Captioning at Town Meeting
Andover’s commitment to universal accessibility is being expanded and we are happy to announce that Live Captioning and Assisted Listening will be available at Andover Town Meeting 2022!
Live Captioning
During Town Meeting, live captioning will be broadcast on screens set up beside the jumbotrons at each side of the stage. As the Moderator or another speaker talks into the microphone, Epiphan Live Scrypt will transcribe the voice to text in real time, much like a smartphone does when using the talk-to-text feature. Epiphan Live Scrypt can also be streamed to a user’s smartphone for those who prefer to read the transcription on their personal device, rather than the large screen. A QR code will be available at Town Meeting for users who wish to use this free service on their smartphone.
Assisted Listening
Listen Everywhere is a free app that streams live audio to the user’s smartphone. Once the app has been downloaded to the smartphone, the user can listen to clear audio, a discreet way, through their earbuds, headset, or Bluetooth enabled hearing aid or cochlear implant. As the Moderator or another speaker talks into the microphone, Listen Everywhere will stream the audio to the user’s smartphone in real time. QR codes will be available at Town Meeting for users who wish to download the app. The QR code opens to the App Store for iPhone users and the Google Play store for Android users. Please note that you will likely be prompted for your AppleID password or your Google Play password in order to download the app. If you prefer to download the app ahead of time, you may do so by opening the camera app on your smartphone and pointing it at the QR code below.
Please bring your own smartphone and compatible earbuds or headset. If you do not have a smartphone, or forget your earbuds, please visit the Andover Commission on Disability table at Town Meeting for assistance.
