Zero Waste Day 2023

Green Zero Waste Instagram Post

Andover is holding its first post-pandemic Zero Waste Day (ZWD) event at Andover Landing (formerly known as Brickstone) on Saturday, June 3, 2023, rain or shine, from 9:00am – noon. Unlike Public’s Works’ Household Hazardous or CRT/Electronics events which are staffed by town employees, ZWD has traditionally been and is continuing to be staffed largely by volunteers. The wide range of materials collected at ZWD are non-toxic and either donated to local non-profits or processed responsibly by specialty recyclers (scrap metal, electronic). ZWDs have been well-attended and welcomed events in the past; over 300 residents bring tons of clothing, books, furniture, and houseware. These streams are then diverted from Andover’s bulk wastes, creating savings for the Town and enabling less fortunate households around the region to reuse materials. The event is also open to residents of any community, not just the Andovers.

This year’s event will be especially exciting in that it will mark just the second time that Andover and North Andover volunteers have joined forces to divert wastes. Andover volunteers helped with North Andover’s waste diversion event last fall. More information on the materials accepted (and not accepted) at the event can be found on the event flyer at https://www.andoverma.gov/ZWD
