UPDATE 4:15 PM 9/9/2023

UPDATE 1:15 pM 9/9/2023
This is a message from the Andover Town Manager, Police Chief and Fire Chief:
Town Officials are actively supporting National Grid’s effort to restore power. Two of the primary power supplies to the town have experienced significant damage. The locations of these supplies (one located in West Andover and another in the south end of Andover) have resulted in widespread outages throughout Andover. The damage to the primary power supplies will result in significant delays in restoring power. It is expected that power outages will continue into tomorrow.
National Grid has committed over 100 crews to the region to restore power as soon as possible.
The Town has fully mobilized its departments and appropriate personnel and is actively managing the ongoing emergency response. We have activated the Town’s Emergency Operations Center and will continue to coordinate the Town’s response for the duration of this emergency event.
The Andover Department of Public Works is continuing to clear downed trees that are not impacted by live wires. There will be delays in reopening roads that have been impacted by downed trees that are entangled with live wires.
Town’s response has prioritized life safety needs and clearing debris from major roadways. As a result, local roads and neighborhoods continue to be impacted by storm debris. The Town expects to transition to removing debris from neighborhoods this afternoon. This process will continue for several days.
The Town is encouraging residents to use extreme caution when traveling on roads or sidewalks. Live wires can be difficult to identify and are often obstructed by limbs or other storm debris.
The Memorial Hall Library will be open to 5 PM and is available as a cooling center and a location to charge devices. At 5 PM, the Town will open the Senior Center at 30 Whittier Court as the Town’s cooling center and charging station through 10 PM tonight.
If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911.
Update 9:30 AM 9/9/2023
Several major roads and secondary roads continue to be impassable as a result of downed trees or tree limbs. Further, there are widespread reports of downed live wires across roads and sidewalks. Most of Andover’s residents and businesses continue to be without power.
Please continue to use extreme caution when traveling.
Charging Station
Memorial Hall Library is open today, Saturday, September 9, 2023 until 5:00 PM for residents looking to stay cool or charge their devices.
Generator Safety
Andover Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to keep generators at least 15 feet from the house while in operation. Operating a generator too close to a house creates a risk of carbon monoxide entering the home. Call 911 if your carbon monoxide detector is sounding.
Downed Power Line Safety
Always use extreme caution near downed power lines and wires. For your own safety, assume that they are live and carrying electricity.
Ongoing Restoration
We expect that unsafe conditions will continue into Saturday and Sunday. We appreciate the community’s understanding that the impacts from this storm, including power outages, may last multiple days.
