The Town of Andover’s Department of Public Work is continuing to respond to damage caused by the severe weather event on Friday, September 8. In the interests of public safety, the initial phase of the Department’s response effort has prioritized removing downed trees and debris from roads and sidewalks to ensure that all public ways are passable. This included pushing the trees to the side of the road and sometimes onto lawns. As we move into the recovery phase, we will be collecting that debris as soon as possible. Large debris left on your property as a result of being pushed to the side of the road is not required to be bundled.
The Town of Andover is committed to providing assistance to residents in clearing branches and tree debris left on their property from the storm. Additional Town resources will be dedicated to this in the coming days as the process to clear public ways nears completion.
All branches, limbs, and tree debris placed at curbside will be collected as soon as possible, either by Department of Public Works crews, or by additional Republic Services trucks deployed at the Town’s request. Material placed at curbside for collection needs to meet regulations that apply to branches collected during regular weekly trash pick-up with the exception of the number of bundles placed. We encourage residents to place branches and debris in an organized manner when possible to allow town wide collection efforts to take place quickly and efficiently.
Due to the significant volume of downed branches on properties across town, collection of this material may take several weeks. We appreciate the patience of Andover residents as we continue to recover from this unexpected and severe weather event.
The Town has also opened two sites for residents to deposit tree debris relate to the storm. The Bald Hill Compost Site, located at 288 High Plain Road, and the Pomps Pond parking lot, located at 147 Abbot Street, will be open from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM daily.
Curbside collection and public drop-off sites should not be used to discard general yard waste not related to the storm.

Given the severity of damage caused by the extreme weather event on Friday, the Town of Andover will provide several options to assist residents with discarding tree limbs and branches from their properties.
Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12, residents may drop off branches, limbs, and tree debris at the Bald Hill Compost Site, located at 288 High Plain Road, and the parking lot of Pomps Pond, located at 147 Abbot Street. Both drop-off sites will be open from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM daily.
Additionally, Republic Services will be providing an additional truck to collect bundled branches and debris from the front of properties beginning on Wednesday, September 13. This additional curbside collection will not follow a normal route schedule. Residents should expect branches placed at their curb to be collected within one week.
Bundled branches for curbside pickup must be bound with tape or rope, and should be 50 pound or less. Branches may be up to 6 inches in diameter, and up to 4 feet in length. Bundles must not be bagged, and should not be placed on roadways or sidewalks while awaiting collection.
Use of these options should be limited to branches and tree debris, and should not be used for disposal of general yard waste not related to the storm.
