A movie screening in Memorial Hall. This month's selection is Green Book. Directed by Peter Farrelly; 2018; running time is 130 minutes; rated PG-13. When Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on The Green Book to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humor, they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime. Inspired by a true friendship.

  2. Discussion and Performance: Hawaii and New England Missionaries

    October 4, 2019, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Phillips Academy

Two hundred years ago, New England-based missionaries, many with ties to Andover, made the inaugural voyage to the Kingdom of Hawaii. The rest, the saying goes, is history. But, whose history is it? From whose perspective has it been told and to what ends? What if the intertwined histories of Hawaii and New England were even more complex, intriguing, and far-reaching than we have previously imagined? On Friday, October 4th, a cultural and theatrical program, “My Name is 'Opukaha?ia," featuring gifted vocalist and Hawaiian music historian Po'ai Lincoln, takes place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Kemper Auditorium. A poster featuring both events is attached.
