The structure of the online class will include slide and sample artwork presentations on the topics mentioned, demonstrations, individual discussions via zoom breakout rooms (splitting from the main online class meeting), and group critiques through on-screen work-sharing and live discussions.

This class will challenge you to consider how you approach an intimate subject and what your technical and stylistic choices say about your relationship. Open to artists in any medium who want to make portraits of loved ones, as well as non-artists who simply wish to discuss art and learn different philosophies of portraiture.

Students will immerse themselves into the world of digital art by learning how to draw and animate on the Ipad using the Procreate app. Learn the tools and secrets that professional illustrators and digital artists have been using to create stunning digital masterpieces, animations and narratives. Students must download the procreate app, have an Ipad and an Ipad pencil. This course will require you to use Zoom for video and audio instruction and sharing.

We will begin by studying the formal structure of head and facial features, creating volume and rendering of the form, analyzing value distribution, and foreshortening. Alongside, students will experiment breaking away from the form in search of more individualized expression exploring the abstract, symbolic, surreal, or conceptual interpretation of portraiture.
