The Town of Andover has been notified that CodeRED, the third-party emergency notification platform used by the Town of Andover and many other communities nationwide, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident. CodeRED is operated by OnSolve/Crisis24 and is not a Town-managed system. The breach occurred within CodeRED’s own platform and was not the result of the Town of Andover’s cybersecurity practices or internal systems. The incident does not impact any other Town platforms or systems, and the impacted data is held directly by CodeRED based on direct user enrollment, not the Town of Andover
As a result of this incident, the vendor has indicated that user information associated with CodeRED accounts may have been compromised. This includes contact details used when registering for alerts, and passwords that may have been used to establish an account.
In response to this disruption, the Town has engaged directly with OnSolve/Crisis24 to ensure an expedient transition to the new CodeRED platform. The vendor has informed us that the breach was contained within their prior system and that the new platform is operating in a separate, secure environment. The Town will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted access to emergency notification tools for residents.
Recommended Steps for Residents
The following steps are recommended as precautions, based on guidance from the vendor:
- If you used a password to register for CodeRED, change your password on other personal and business platforms on which you used the same password. Please note that establishing a password is not required to subscribe for CodeRED Alerts. If you are not sure if you used a password for CodeRED, please contact their customer service at crspport@crisis24.com.
- Be cautious of unexpected emails, calls, or text messages requesting personal information, even if they appear to come from an official source.
- Contact information added to the system after March 31, 2025, may not yet have been restored. If you registered for CodeRED alerts recently, you can re-subscribe online to avoid any disruptions to alerts.
The Town will continue working with the vendor and our public safety partners to ensure reliable emergency communication capabilities. Any significant updates related to this matter provided by CodeRED or Crisis24 will be shared with the community, but residents may receive a separate notice directly from OnSolve/Crisis with further information as well. This communication is advisory only in the interests of giving resident users advanced notice.
