[ARCHIVED] February 22 Winter Storm Advisory

Navy Storm Square

The Town of Andover is actively monitoring and responding to a winter storm expected to impact our region beginning Sunday night, February 22, and continuing throughout the day on Monday, February 23. Current forecasts indicate Andover could receive up to 18 inches of snow or more, with snowfall rates that may reach 2 to 3 inches per hour at times. Andover Public Works crews will be actively treating and clearing roadways throughout the storm.

Snow Emergency Parking Ban

A snow emergency parking ban will be in place beginning at 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 22 and will remain in effect until further notice to enable DPW crews to clear and treat roadways. No parking is permitted on Town roads while the ban is in place. Vehicles parked in violation of the parking ban may be ticketed or towed.

Town Building and School Closures

All non-emergency Town buildings will be closed on Monday, February 23, including Town Offices, offices temporarily located at Old Town Hall, Memorial Hall Library, Cormier Youth Center, and the Robb Center.

Andover Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 23. All Town and School after-school programming will be canceled.

Trash and Recycling

There will be no trash and recycling collection on Monday, and collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Other Advisories

Road conditions are expected to change quickly as the storm intensifies. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off roadways when possible, and to give plows and other snow clearing equipment ample space to operate throughout the storm.

As you begin clearing snow, please help crews and emergency responders by clearing catch basins and fire hydrants near your property. Residents should also maintain clearance for all natural gas and other exhaust vents on their homes, and ensure vehicle tailpipes are clear of snow before starting and operating vehicles.

Given the potential for high winds and heavy snowfall, the Town is coordinating with National Grid regarding the possibility of power outages. If conditions warrant, the Town will share additional operational updates and information on available resources based on circumstances as they develop.
